The short answer
Plan on about 8–10 hours for one story run if you read dialogue and learn the repair systems at a normal pace. Side jobs can push that toward 12–13 hours. A completion run can take 20–25 hours, especially because the current achievement guide expects multiple playthroughs for mutually exclusive outcomes.
| Goal | Current public estimate | Evidence level | |---|---:|---| | Main story | 7.5–10 hours | Community aggregate plus one editorial playthrough | | Main story + side content | About 12.5 hours | Community aggregate | | Completion / achievements | About 20–25 hours | Community aggregate plus 100% guide estimate | | Demo | Roughly 1–1.5 hours in public full runs | Individual video evidence, not an official duration |
Step by step
1. Choose the estimate that matches your goal
“How long is ReStory?” has no single answer because a player who follows only the story is measuring a different game from someone completing optional repairs, character routes, and achievements.
- Use the main-story range if you want one ending and only necessary repairs.
- Use the main + sides estimate if you regularly accept optional work and follow character threads.
- Use the completion range if you want achievements and alternate choices.
2. Expect repair pace to change the result
ReStory mixes dialogue and shop progression with hands-on disassembly. Your total time rises when you inspect every component, repeat an assembly, wait on orders, or experiment with tools. A player already comfortable reading the Notebook and preserving layer order will move faster than a first-time repairer.
The beginner repair workflow can reduce repeated disassembly, but it should not be treated as a speedrun route.
3. Understand the completion estimate
The current community 100% guide estimates about 25 hours and says its achievement route needs at least three playthroughs because several choices are missable or mutually exclusive. That is the author’s route estimate, not an official minimum.
Use a manual backup before testing alternate late-game choices, but do not assume one backup can satisfy every achievement trigger. See the save backup guide before replacing files.
4. Estimate the demo separately
Public videos labeled as full demo playthroughs run for roughly one to one-and-a-half hours. Video length varies with editing, dialogue speed, and player familiarity, and the developer has not published a fixed “hours to complete” number for the demo.
Demo progress does not transfer to the full game, so do not count demo time as progress already banked toward a retail playthrough.
What not to assume
- These are estimates, not an official timer or guaranteed minimum.
- One editorial playthrough does not define every player’s main-story length.
- Video runtime can include cuts, pauses, or a different reading speed.
- “Completion” may require alternate choices, not simply finishing every visible side job once.
- Demo progress does not carry into the full release.
